Tomorrow (May21, 2007)is a big day for our Sudanese congregation. We will present them at the Tarrant Baptist Executive Board as they enter into official mission church status. You and I won't see many changes because we've always thought of them as our mission church. However, now they are eligible for funding both from Tarrant Baptists and the Baptist General Convention of Texas . Beyond the money, this step validates the job they have been doing to reach people from the Sudan .

Testimony from the Sudanese people themselves:

Months ago the Sudanese community from across the metroplex gathered at WHBC to encourage and inform each other about our war-torn homeland and share our desire to return someday to rebuild our country. There were several speakers, but one especially directed his thoughts towards WHBC. He said, "We were thirsty until we found Woodland Heights, but we are no longer thirsty for they gave us drink."

Sudanese Assistance Team

This is a ministry which attempts to help our Sudanese families better adapt to life in these United States. God has given us this opportunity to reach out to those in need and we desperately need YOUR help!!

What is the Sudanese Assistance Team is doing?

Dear WHBC, we would like to introduce you to the Sudanese members of our church and to a recently organized group called the Sudanese Assistance Team, (which you are enthusiastically invited to join)!

First we would like to call your attention to Matthew 25:35-40 (personalized for us): Then the King will say to WHBC: ........"I was hungry and WHBC gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and WHBC gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and WHBC invited me in, I needed clothes and WHBC clothed me"...Then we will answer Him, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?....." And the King will reply, "I tell you the truth, whatever WHBC did for one of the least of these Sudanese brothers of mine, you did for me."

Months ago the Sudanese community from across the metroplex gathered at WHBC to encourage and inform each other about their war-torn homeland and share their desire to return someday to rebuild their country. There were several speakers, but one especially directed his thoughts towards WHBC. He said, "We were thirsty until we found Woodland Heights, but we are no longer thirsty for they gave us drink."

That statement should make us proud to be part of WHBC! But at the same time we can do so much more. These precious people were persecuted in Sudan, forced to leave their homes and family members behind, and come to a new country where everything is different and difficult for them. In spite of that, they love it here! They love the United States of America! They love Texas!
And they love WHBC!

But....they are daily struggling to exist. Just ordinary things, like grocery shopping, job interviews, learning how to set the controls on their air conditioner and understanding income taxes! - makes each day a challenge for them.
And even as we help provide some of their food and clothes and transportation ("a drink of water"), we see they need so much more.

You're probably saying, "I would be willing to help if I just knew what they needed." Or, "I see them in our services but I don't know how to get to know them." Well, the Sudanese Assistance Team has been formed for that reason - to help resolve those issues! We want to enable every member of WHBC to jump those roadblocks and provide a whole fountain of water for these lovely people to drink!

And then perhaps the King will say,
"Come, WHBC, who are blessed by my Father, take your inheritance." Matt. 25:34

God has surely given us a wondrous opportunity to search within ourselves to see if we are truly worthy to be called His ambassadors.
